I have the honor to be the featured writer at Leeds Center for Chinese Writing. This afternoon, I shared a stage with the wonderful award winning writer Yan Ge on a panel entitled “Women in China: Fiction and Reality”. In the first half of the seminar, I talked about Lotus, a novel about a migrant-turned sex worker and she talked about her novel The Chilli Bean Paste Clan about a man frequents prostitutes. I think we complemented each other beautifully. In the second half, we answered many questions from a packed audience about fiction, gender issues in China, prostitution and writing in English. I am so happy with the way it went.
Here’s Yan Ge’s wikie entry. Check her out.
